Consumers and eHealth in the Big 4 Pharma Markets

Tuesday, 19 February 2002, 8:00 9:00 am

Presenter: Katherine Binns, senior vice president, Health Care Research

How often do consumers use the Internet for health care? What is the impact of Internet-based consumer health care on consumer behavior? What are the perceptions of current and potential providers of Internet-based health care information, and their expectations for the future? How would you effectively assess the eHealth landscape using online research?

Released to the public for the first time, this presentation will feature responses from more than 1,000 consumers in France, Germany, Japan and the United States who participated in a recent Harris Interactive online health care study. The study builds on research Harris Interactive has been conducting in the United States since 1999.

The Public Health Impact of Direct-to-Consumer Advertising in the United States and the Global Future of DTCA

Tuesday, 19 February 2002, Time TBD

Presenters: Humphrey Taylor, chairman, The Harris Poll and Katherine Binns, senior vice president, Health Care Research

While the United States has pioneered the use of direct-to-consumer advertising (DTCA) of prescription drugs, this topic is being discussed and considered by policymakers in Europe and many other countries. These countries are looking at the United States, and the impact of DTCA there, before deciding on whether, how and when to allow DTCA in their countries. This movement is being fuelled by the Internet, which - unlike traditional media advertising knows few international boundaries.
