Sr Software Engineer – Team Lead - Princeton, NJ (631)
Location: Princeton, NJ

Overview

Responsible for the development of customized web-based reporting solutions that deliver complex market research data using Harris Interactive's Custom ViewPort Technology.

Responsibilities
  • Working with internal staff and clients to define and refine requirements for reporting systems.
  • Assessing the scope and effort required to deploy applications.
  • Coordinating and managing team resources to ensure the complete and timely delivery of Custom ViewPort solutions.

The Team Lead position is "hands-on". Leads are expected to be prolific in designing, coding and deploying sites on their own and with the support of junior staff and senior consultants. Leads must be capable of:

  • Designing, developing and maintaining customized web-based reporting sites and applications using SQL Server, Microsoft Active Server Pages ( ASP ), ADO and HTML technologies
  • Designing and maintaining data warehousing structures within the existing ViewPort warehouse design.
  • Working closely with market research staff and clients to design easy to use and attractive web-based interfaces using HTML, DHTML, ASP, CSS and XSL.
  • Leading 2-3 large client specific projects per year.
  • Mentoring junior staff in technology, market research, and project management skills.
  • Contributing to ongoing improvement of the company’s ViewPort reporting system through deployment of re-usable components and by supporting other Team Leads.

Each Lead is expected to excel in one or more technical areas (e.g. Design, SQL, VB programming, C# programming, DHTML, XML, MS Office integration, UI design)

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required. Computer Science or comparable degree is preferred.

Project Management and Team Lead Skills Required:

  • Ability to accurately define customer requirements.
  • Ability to accurately estimate effort and workload.
  • Ability to manage projects with little supervision from senior staff.
  • Ability to coordinate rapidly changing priorities and requirements from multiple simultaneous projects.

Technical Skills Required:

  • Minimum of 5 years of web based applications development
  • Minimum of 5 years of database design and programming including a command of SQL database technologies: Schema Design, T-SQL use, Query optimization.
  • Minimum of 5 years programming experience including a command of multiple programming languages, including VBScript, JavaScript, Visual Basic and C#.
  • Proven experience in deploying intuitive and attractive sites and web based applications
  • Familiarity with Microsoft IIS, Visual Studio, and Microsoft .NET Framework
  • Detailed understanding of HTTP, HTML, CSS, XML, XSL and other standards that define the web application environment
  • Proven experience presenting quantitative information to users via a browser interface
  • Comprehensive understanding of market Research data and reporting
  • Experience in creating prototypes a plus

Industry Knowledge a plus:

  • Understanding of statistics and statistical terminology a benefit
  • Experience in graphical presentation of research data
  • Familiarity with procedures and processes used to process research data (weighting, regression methodology, trending, data merging, etc… ) a benefit

General Skills

  • Strong interpersonal and customer relations skills a must
  • Strong ability to execute a variety of functions in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to effectively communicate and document system requirements
