Poll Methodology and Process
The 2009 Harris Interactive College Football Poll is comprised of 114 panelists and includes former coaches, players, administrators and current and former media. Panelists are randomly drawn by Harris Interactive from among more than 300 nominations supplied by the 11 Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly Division I-A) conferences and independent institutions. The panel meets Harris Interactive criteria for sample design and is a statistically reliable representation of all 11 conferences and independent institutions.
History behind the Harris Interactive College Football Poll
Harris Interactive launched its
first release of the Top 25 college football team rankings on September 25,
2005. The 11 Division I-A conferences and the independent institutions
comprising the BCS had commissioned Harris Interactive to conduct a new college
football Top 25 poll, results that have become one of the components of the
overall BCS standings formula which determines the participants in the BCS
National Championship Game and other BCS bowl games played each January.
