LATEST WAVE 3 - JANUARY 2014

• The celebs UK consumers have started following most recently on social media sites
• Facebook losing traction among 11-15 year olds
• One in ten UK social media users have had an account hacked – most likely Facebook or Twitter
• Snapchat and Instagram are the fastest growing social media sites in the UK

WAVE 2 - SEPTEMBER 2013

• Instagram daily use peaks at 19% among 15-18 year olds

WAVE 1 - MARCH 2013

• Instagram, tumblr and Pinterest users are most likely to check social media whilst watching TV
• LinkedIn is the only one of these platforms that does not have a younger skew to its user profile
• Tumblr. and Instagram have significantly higher brand awareness among younger UK consumers
• A quarter of social media users aged 16-24 admit they keep tabs on their exes at least 'now and again'. Only half have never done so
• Most social media users do not use social media to generate business
• Women are more likely to follow Wimbledon stars than men, who fixate on footballers
• Men follow sports & consumer electronics brands while FMCG brands, supermarkets & high street stores are more likely to be followed by women
• Facebook dominates when it comes to overall social media volume, generating two-fifths of all original content and over half of all secondary content
• Men are much more active on social media than women and 16-24 year olds account for 47% of all original content
